Using curated quality notes for now.

Why this quality rating

Turkey's public schools can work for local families, but expat fit is weaker and the public path is not usually the obvious choice when alternatives exist.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment is possible, but Turkish-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route hard for most foreign families.

🚫 Homeschooling

Homeschooling not legal

Turkey requires compulsory school attendance. Homeschooling is not permitted under current law. Foreign residents are technically subject to the same rules, though enforcement varies for non-citizens.

Homeschool legality in Turkey — check current regulations before committing.

About Ataşehir

Atasehir is a district on the Asian side of Istanbul in Turkey, designated in 2009 from parts of Uskudar and Kadikoy as a planned residential and commercial zone. It is built up around the Finansal Merkez Istanbul project, intended as a new financial district for Turkey, and contains significant high-rise residential development, several large shopping malls, and headquarters of major Turkish banks including the state-owned Ziraat, Halkbank, and Vakifbank. The climate is humid subtropical Mediterranean with hot summers, mild damp winters, and occasional snow. Turkish is the working language with English used in international business. Atasehir is a popular landing zone for Turkish corporate workers and a smaller foreign-resident community drawn by newer building stock and proximity to both Sabiha Gokcen airport and metro lines toward central Istanbul.
