About Arsuz
Arsuz is a district and town in Hatay Province of southern Turkey, sitting on the eastern Mediterranean coast about 30 kilometers south-southwest of Iskenderun and 40 kilometers west of Antakya. The roughly 112,000 residents live along a stretch of Mediterranean coastline at the southern end of the Bay of Iskenderun, with the local economy combining domestic Turkish coastal tourism (Arsuz functions as a summer destination for the inland Hatay and Gaziantep populations), citrus and vegetable cultivation on the coastal plain, and small-scale fisheries. Turkish is the working language with Arabic widely spoken given the wider Hatay province's historical Arab and Alawite communities. The February 2023 earthquakes that devastated southeastern Turkey caused significant damage across Hatay province including Arsuz, with reconstruction continuing through 2026. The climate is hot-summer Mediterranean.
