Why this quality rating
Sudan's public-school system is not a compelling default for expat families, especially under current conflict conditions.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Even where enrollment is technically possible, Arabic-medium instruction and present-day instability make the public route usually impractical for expat families.
โ Homeschooling
Not specifically regulatedSudan has compulsory education laws but no specific homeschooling framework. Enforcement is limited. The ongoing political instability makes this a non-priority destination for worldschooling families.

About Al Qadarif
Al Qadarif is the capital of Gedaref State in eastern Sudan, sitting close to the Ethiopian border in one of Africa's largest mechanized sorghum and sesame growing belts. The local economy is overwhelmingly tied to large-scale rainfed agriculture and the seasonal labor migration it generates, with grain markets and milling as the main commercial activities. The climate is hot semi-arid with very hot dry summers, a short summer wet season that supports the rainfed agriculture cycle, and warm winters. Arabic is the working language alongside several Eritrean and Ethiopian refugee-community languages, given the city's role as a major host of refugees from the Tigray and Eritrean borders. The ongoing Sudanese civil war that began in April 2023 has made the area unsuitable for foreign relocation outside humanitarian roles.
