About Evaton
Evaton is a township in the Sedibeng District of Gauteng, South Africa, sitting about 50 kilometers south of Johannesburg in the Vaal Triangle industrial region with around 725,000 residents. Founded in the 1900s as one of the few areas where Black South Africans could own land under freehold tenure during the segregation era, it has a distinct historical identity within the broader Vaal urban fabric that includes Vereeniging and Sebokeng. The economy is largely residential and informal commerce, with workers commuting to industrial jobs in the Vaal or Johannesburg metro. Relocators face the typical Gauteng mix of opportunity and security concerns. Foreign presence is minimal; suits diaspora-return or specific community ties rather than open expat relocation.
