Why this quality rating

Senegal has a real public-school system, but quality is uneven and the public path is still a French-medium local-integration choice rather than the obvious default for most expat families.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident families can in principle use public schools, but French-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route situational for relocating households.

Healthcare

System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in Senegal.

Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Saint-Louis

Saint-Louis is a city in northwestern Senegal, with about 254,000 residents, sitting on an island in the Senegal River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean near the Mauritanian border. It was the capital of French West Africa until 1902 and of Senegal until 1957, and the colonial-era island core is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The economy combines fishing through the Guet Ndar quarter, salt production, the Saint-Louis Jazz festival and inbound visitors, and Université Gaston Berger as one of Senegal's main universities. Road links to Dakar take about four hours along the N2; there is no domestic rail to the capital. The climate is hot semi-arid with cool ocean breezes year-round. French is the working language alongside Wolof, English is rare, and the city faces accelerating coastal erosion.
