Why this quality rating

Morocco’s public system is not generally seen as the obvious route for expat families who can afford alternatives.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Even where enrollment is possible, language and school-quality tradeoffs make public schooling a weak fit for most relocating expat families.

Homeschooling

Not specifically addressed

Morocco requires school attendance but homeschooling exists in a legal gray area. Some families use distance education programs. Enforcement varies.

About Tétouan

Tétouan lies in northern Morocco at the foot of the Rif Mountains, about 60 kilometers from Tangier and 40 from the Mediterranean coast at Martil. It is a secondary city, regionally important but well below Casablanca, Rabat, or Tangier in economic weight. The medina is UNESCO-listed and the city retains a strong Spanish architectural and linguistic influence, a holdover from the Spanish Protectorate; Spanish is widely spoken alongside Arabic and French. Relocators should weigh genuinely low cost of living and a mild Mediterranean climate against limited international flight connections and slower bureaucracy. The economy is driven by services, agriculture from the surrounding plains, and growing seasonal tourism from Spain via the Tangier-Med port.
