Why this quality rating
Malaysia's public system can be academically solid, but it is built primarily for local families and is not the easy default path for expats.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Foreign families may face permission and fit hurdles, and the long-term public path depends heavily on Malay-medium integration.
โ Homeschooling
Not explicitly regulatedMalaysia does not have a specific homeschooling law. The Education Act 1996 requires school attendance, but enforcement for non-citizens is minimal. Many expat families homeschool without issue. Malaysian citizens technically need to attend school, but homeschooling is increasingly tolerated.

About Iskandar Puteri
Iskandar Puteri (formerly Nusajaya) is a planned city in Malaysia's Johor state with roughly 576,000 residents, the administrative capital of Johor and a flagship project of the broader Iskandar Malaysia economic development zone covering southern Johor. The city hosts the new state government complex at Kota Iskandar, Educity (a higher-education zone with branch campuses of UK and Singaporean universities), Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia film studios, and significant residential development driven by Singapore investors and commuters. The economy combines government, education, media production, and cross-border services tied to Singapore (the second link bridge to Tuas opens directly from the area). The climate is equatorial with year-round high temperatures and high humidity. English and Bahasa Malaysia are widely used. Relocators should weigh ongoing build-out (parts of the city remain under development), causeway congestion for Singapore commuters, and dependence on Singapore Changi or KL for long-haul flights.
