About Mzuzu

Mzuzu is the largest city in northern Malawi and the regional capital of the Northern Region, set on the Viphya Plateau at around 1,250 meters elevation. The altitude gives it a far milder climate than lakeside Malawi, with cool dry winters that can briefly drop near freezing and warm wet summers. The economy combines regional administration, the Mzuzu Coffee growers' cooperative that anchors smallholder Arabica production from the Viphya and Misuku hills, timber from the Viphya plantations, services for the surrounding agricultural districts, and Mzuzu University. English and Chichewa are the working languages alongside Tumbuka, and the kwacha is the currency. The M1 highway south to Lilongwe and a small regional airport anchor connectivity. Relocation interest is largely domestic and NGO-driven.
