Why this quality rating
Kosovo's public schools can work for locally integrated families, but they are not the obvious default for most expat households.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident enrollment may be possible, but Albanian- or Serbian-medium instruction makes the public route harder for most expat families.
❓ Homeschooling
Not specifically addressedKosovo requires compulsory education but does not have specific homeschooling legislation. The education system is still developing post-independence. Not a well-established path for homeschoolers.

About Mitrovicë
Mitrovicë sits on the Ibar River in northern Kosovo, about 40 kilometers north of Pristina. The city is the most politically charged in Kosovo, divided by the river into a southern Albanian-majority section and a northern Serb-majority section, with the historic bridge between them a continuing symbol of unresolved post-war political tensions. Local economic activity was historically dominated by the Trepča mining complex, one of the largest lead and zinc operations in Europe, which has operated at much-reduced capacity since the 1990s conflict. The University of Mitrovica serves the southern half of the city. Climate is continental with cold snowy winters and warm summers. For foreign relocators Mitrovicë is a niche destination tied mostly to international organizations, peacekeeping, and NGO presence; Albanian and Serbian are both spoken depending on neighborhood, with English common in international contexts. Pristina handles standard expatriate services and the regional airport.
