Why this quality rating

Jordan’s public system is not the route most expat families target when they want English-friendly schooling and predictable quality.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Arabic-medium public schooling is possible in some cases, but most foreign families realistically end up on the private-school path.

📋 Homeschooling

Legal with school enrollment

Jordan allows homeschooling in exceptional circumstances through its Ministry of Education. Students must be linked to a school for assessment. More commonly used for students with disabilities or in remote areas. Expat families in Amman often use international schools.

About As Salţ

As Salṭ sits in the Balqa Highlands of northwestern Jordan, about 30 kilometers northwest of Amman. The city's well-preserved late-Ottoman urban core of yellow limestone buildings was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021 under the title The Place of Tolerance and Urban Hospitality. Historically a regional trading hub between the Jordan Valley and the Arabian interior, As Salt later lost commercial primacy when the British administration relocated the regional capital to Amman in the early twentieth century. The city today functions as a regional administrative center and Amman commuter satellite. Climate is Mediterranean-influenced with hot dry summers and mild wet winters that occasionally bring snow at the city's roughly 800-meter elevation. For relocators Jordan's relative regional stability and Amman's expatriate infrastructure are the practical context; As Salt offers lower costs with English and Arabic as the working languages.
