About Pudong, Shanghai
Pudong is the eastern district of Shanghai across the Huangpu River from the historic Bund, with about 5.7 million residents under its administrative boundaries. The district was farmland until the early 1990s and now anchors the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the Lujiazui financial skyline, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, and the Zhangjiang science and technology cluster that hosts much of China's semiconductor and pharmaceutical R&D. Relocators tied to multinational finance and tech often live in Pudong itself, particularly in Jinqiao and along the riverfront in Lujiazui, where international schooling concentrates and street grids are built to Western suburban scale.
