Why this quality rating
Brazil has usable public-school options, but outcomes and day-to-day quality vary sharply by state, city, and neighborhood.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident foreign families can usually enroll, but Portuguese-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public path situational.
📋 Homeschooling
Recently legalized (2024)Brazil legalized homeschooling in 2024 after years of legal ambiguity. Families must register with the education system and students take annual assessments. Previously operated in a gray area where many families homeschooled despite uncertain legal status.

About Franca
Franca sits in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil, near the border with Minas Gerais on the elevated Mogiana plateau. It is not a state capital but functions as the dominant city of its microregion, internationally known as one of Brazil's largest footwear manufacturing clusters, particularly for men's leather shoes; coffee processing is a secondary anchor. The altitude of around 1,000 meters gives it a milder, drier climate than the lowland interior, with cool winter nights and warm summer days. Portuguese is universal. Relocation drivers are practical rather than glamorous: a manufacturing labor market, lower housing costs than the São Paulo metro, and decent road access via the Anhanguera and Cândido Portinari highways.
