About Godomè

Godomè is a suburb on the northern outskirts of Cotonou in southern Benin, with about 253,000 residents, sitting in the Abomey-Calavi commune along the lagoon and the RNIE 2 highway corridor. It is part of the contiguous urban belt that has grown northward from Cotonou, the country's economic capital, and functions primarily as a fast-expanding residential area for workers in Cotonou, with small-scale commerce, motorbike-taxi (zem) networks and informal employment dominating the local economy. Infrastructure is uneven, with paved trunk roads but limited sewerage and intermittent grid electricity in newer neighbourhoods. The climate is tropical, hot and humid year-round with two rainy seasons. French is the official language alongside Fon and Yoruba, English is rare, and housing costs are low but commuting times into Cotonou are long.
