About El Monte, CA

El Monte is a city in the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles County, California, United States, sitting about 20 kilometres east of downtown Los Angeles along Interstate 10. It is one of the older settlements in the Los Angeles basin, founded in 1851 as an early stopping point on the southern route west, and is now a predominantly Latino working-class suburb with a substantial East and Southeast Asian population. The local economy combines manufacturing along the I-10 corridor, logistics, and small business, with the El Monte bus station serving as one of the busiest in the country for intercity Mexico-bound services. Spanish and English are both widely spoken, with Chinese and Vietnamese significant in specific neighbourhoods. The Mediterranean climate brings mild, dry winters and hot, dry summers.
