About Türkmenabat

Turkmenabat is the second-largest city in Turkmenistan and the capital of Lebap Province, set on the Amu Darya river in the eastern part of the country near the border with Uzbekistan. The city is a long-standing Silk Road trade and transit point and today serves as a regional center for cotton processing, chemical fertilizer production, and gas-corridor infrastructure linking Turkmenistan's eastern fields to export pipelines. The climate is sharply continental and arid, with extremely hot dry summers above forty degrees and cold winters that can drop below freezing. Turkmen is the official language, with Russian and Uzbek widely spoken. International access is via Turkmenabat's airport with domestic flights to Ashgabat, with most foreign relocators tied to the energy sector under tight visa conditions.
