Why this quality rating
Turkey's public schools can work for local families, but expat fit is weaker and the public path is not usually the obvious choice when alternatives exist.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident enrollment is possible, but Turkish-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route hard for most foreign families.
🚫 Homeschooling
Homeschooling not legalTurkey requires compulsory school attendance. Homeschooling is not permitted under current law. Foreign residents are technically subject to the same rules, though enforcement varies for non-citizens.

About Şanlıurfa
Şanlıurfa is a major city in southeastern Turkey, roughly 80 kilometers north of the Syrian border on a high plateau near the headwaters of the ancient Mesopotamian world. With around 450,000 residents in the central districts and a metropolitan figure much higher, it serves as a regional agricultural and trade hub anchored by the Southeastern Anatolia Project, plus the archaeological draw of nearby Göbekli Tepe. Relocators should weigh hot dry summers that regularly exceed 40°C, a culturally conservative environment that differs sharply from coastal Turkey, a meaningful Syrian refugee population that has reshaped the city since 2011, and very limited international-facing infrastructure. Kurdish and Arabic are widely spoken alongside Turkish.
