Why this quality rating

Turkey's public schools can work for local families, but expat fit is weaker and the public path is not usually the obvious choice when alternatives exist.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment is possible, but Turkish-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route hard for most foreign families.

🚫 Homeschooling

Homeschooling not legal

Turkey requires compulsory school attendance. Homeschooling is not permitted under current law. Foreign residents are technically subject to the same rules, though enforcement varies for non-citizens.

Healthcare

System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in Turkey.

Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Malatya

Malatya is a regional capital in eastern Anatolia, Turkey, sitting at about 950 meters elevation in a basin surrounded by the Taurus foothills with around 750,000 residents. It is best known internationally as Turkey's primary apricot-producing region, supplying roughly half the world's dried apricots, and as the birthplace of former President Turgut Özal. The February 2023 earthquake caused significant damage, with reconstruction ongoing. Relocators face a hot-summer continental climate with cold winters and limited international amenities. Turkish is essential; English use is limited outside Inönü University. Costs sit well below Istanbul or Ankara. The conservative social environment and ongoing reconstruction context make this a niche destination, mainly for academics, agricultural sector roles, or those with regional ties.
