Why this quality rating

Turkey's public schools can work for local families, but expat fit is weaker and the public path is not usually the obvious choice when alternatives exist.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment is possible, but Turkish-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route hard for most foreign families.

🚫 Homeschooling

Homeschooling not legal

Turkey requires compulsory school attendance. Homeschooling is not permitted under current law. Foreign residents are technically subject to the same rules, though enforcement varies for non-citizens.

About Bingöl

Bingöl sits in the mountainous interior of eastern Turkey, the capital of Bingöl Province in a remote region along the upper Murat River. Population is about 130,000, and the city is one of the smaller provincial capitals of the country, with an economy built on regional administration, Bingöl University, and the agricultural and pastoral activities of the surrounding Kurdish-majority rural areas. Honey production is a notable local specialty. Turkish is the official language with Zaza and Kurmanji Kurdish widely spoken. Climate is humid continental with cold snowy winters and warm dry summers at elevation around 1,150 meters, giving distinct seasonal contrast. The area sits in one of Turkey's most seismically active zones — a major 1971 earthquake killed nearly 900 people and the broader region has continued to see significant tremors. Foreign relocation is essentially nil outside short-term researcher and journalist postings.
