Why this quality rating
Spain’s public schools are broadly solid, with stronger outcomes in some regions than others.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident families can use public schools, but the classroom language will be Spanish and sometimes a regional language like Catalan or Valencian.
❓ Homeschooling
Legal gray areaSpain does not explicitly prohibit or regulate homeschooling. The constitution guarantees education but does not require school attendance. Some regions are more tolerant than others. Catalonia and Andalusia have growing communities. Court rulings have generally been sympathetic but no clear legal framework exists.

About Valladolid
Valladolid is the capital of Castilla y León in northwestern Spain, set on the Pisuerga River at the heart of the northern Meseta about 190 kilometers from Madrid. The city of around 301,000 historically anchored the Castilian wool and grain economy and now combines a Renault assembly plant, the University of Valladolid, and a regional government concentration. High-speed AVE rail puts central Madrid within about an hour, making Valladolid a real commuter option for the capital. Spanish is universal and considered the cleanest spoken register in the country. Climate is harsh continental, hot summers and cold winters. The city suits EU residents wanting Madrid AVE access at substantially lower rents and a walkable mid-sized Castilian core.
