Why this quality rating

Spain’s public schools are broadly solid, with stronger outcomes in some regions than others.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident families can use public schools, but the classroom language will be Spanish and sometimes a regional language like Catalan or Valencian.

Homeschooling

Legal gray area

Spain does not explicitly prohibit or regulate homeschooling. The constitution guarantees education but does not require school attendance. Some regions are more tolerant than others. Catalonia and Andalusia have growing communities. Court rulings have generally been sympathetic but no clear legal framework exists.

Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Albacete

Albacete is the capital of its eponymous province in the Castilla–La Mancha region of southeastern Spain, sitting on a high plain at roughly 680 meters elevation between Madrid and the Mediterranean coast. It is historically known as a center of knife and cutlery manufacturing, alongside agriculture and food processing tied to the surrounding wine, garlic, and saffron production. High-speed AVE rail service puts Madrid within about 90 minutes and Valencia within roughly two hours. The climate is continental Mediterranean with hot dry summers, cold winters, and substantial day–night temperature swings. Spanish is the working language, EU citizens face no residency restrictions, and the cost of living runs well below Madrid or Valencia.
