About Bo

Bo is the second-largest city in Sierra Leone and the capital of the Southern Province, located in the country's interior roughly 250 kilometers southeast of Freetown. It is a long-established trading center for the surrounding cocoa, coffee, and palm-oil growing region, and hosts Njala University's main campus alongside Bo Government Hospital, the main referral facility for the southeast. The city is historically a meeting point for the Mende, Krio, and other ethnic communities and remains a regional administrative hub. English is the official language with Krio widely used as a lingua franca. The climate is tropical with a pronounced wet season from May through October and substantial annual rainfall.
