About Bayamón

Bayamón is one of the largest municipalities of Puerto Rico, in the United States, immediately west of San Juan on the northern coastal plain, with about 203,000 residents. It functions as a residential and commercial extension of the San Juan metropolitan area rather than a freestanding city, served by the Tren Urbano commuter rail line that connects directly into San Juan and by Highway PR-22 toward the western part of the island. The local economy mixes light manufacturing, particularly pharmaceuticals and medical devices, with retail and government employment; the Universidad Metropolitana and a Universidad de Puerto Rico campus add a substantial student population. Spanish is the dominant daily language alongside English. The tropical maritime climate is warm year-round with a wet season from May through November and significant Atlantic hurricane exposure, most recently with severe damage from Hurricane Maria in 2017.
