Why this quality rating
Laos has a small, uneven public-school system that is not the route most expat families choose in Vientiane or Luang Prabang when private alternatives exist.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident families may be able to enroll, but Lao-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route impractical for most international families.
❓ Homeschooling
Not specifically addressedLaos does not have specific homeschooling legislation. School attendance is compulsory for citizens, but expat families (common in Vientiane) typically homeschool without interference. No formal registration process exists for homeschoolers.

About Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang is a city of about 55,000 on a peninsula at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers in northern Laos, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its preserved fusion of traditional Lao wooden architecture and French colonial buildings. The local economy is overwhelmingly tourism-driven, supported by the city's role as the former royal capital, the daily Buddhist alms-giving procession, and surrounding mountain trekking. The new Boten-Vientiane railway, completed in 2021, has added direct fast rail to China and reshaped regional access. Lao is essential, French is residually used, and English is functional in tourism. The climate is tropical with a cool dry season from November to February. Luang Prabang suits relocators with hospitality or heritage-sector ties.
