Why this quality rating

Japan’s public schools are orderly, reliable, and top-tier by OECD standards.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Foreign resident children can often enroll, but daily schooling is in Japanese and integration can be tough without strong language support.

Homeschooling

Compulsory but flexible

Japan requires parents to ensure children attend school, but there is no punishment for non-attendance. "Futoko" (school refusal) is recognized and supported with alternative education centers. Homeschooling exists in a gray area but is increasingly accepted. No formal framework.

About Daitō

Daitō is a city in northeastern Osaka Prefecture, Japan, with a population near 120,000, immediately east of Osaka city in the Kawachi plain at the foot of the Ikoma mountains. The city functions as a dense residential and light-industrial suburb, with JR Gakkentoshi Line trains reaching Osaka Station in about 25 minutes and the Kintetsu Keihanna Line offering an alternative connection. Daitō Bunka University maintains a campus here. Climate is humid subtropical with hot summers, mild winters, and a brief but distinct rainy season in June. Japanese is universal; English is rare. Relocation suits anyone seeking Osaka labor-market access at suburban rental prices, with detached housing on the eastern hillsides and dense apartment blocks closer to the stations.
