About La Ceiba

La Ceiba is Honduras's third-largest city, sitting on the Caribbean coast at the foot of the Nombre de Dios mountain range and serving as the main jumping-off point for the Bay Islands of Roatán and Utila. The local economy historically depended on banana exports through the port, dominated for decades by Standard Fruit and now Dole, and continues to combine port activity, palm oil processing, fishing, and tourism tied to the Bay Islands and the Pico Bonito cloud forest. Spanish is universal with English widely spoken on the offshore islands. The climate is tropical with year-round warmth and a particularly wet season from September through January. Domestic flights and ferries connect La Ceiba to the Bay Islands daily. Honduras's broader security situation remains a meaningful consideration for any relocator.
