About Port-Gentil

Port-Gentil is Gabon's second-largest city and its economic capital, located on the Atlantic coast at the mouth of the Ogooué River, about 145 kilometers southwest of Libreville. With roughly 165,000 residents, it functions as the operational center of Gabon's oil industry, with offshore production, onshore terminals, and the country's principal commercial port handling crude exports alongside timber and manganese. Major international oil companies have long maintained operations here, supporting an expatriate community concentrated in engineering and services. French is the official language and the working medium for business. The city sits on Mandji Island and has no road connection to the mainland, so access is by air or sea only. The climate is hot, humid, and equatorial. For relocation, opportunities are almost entirely tied to the oil and services sector.
