About Franceville

Franceville is the third-largest city in Gabon, sitting in the southeastern Haut-Ogooué Province in the country's interior plateaus. Its roughly 133,000 residents live in a town whose economy is built almost entirely around manganese mining at nearby Moanda (one of the world's largest manganese deposits, operated by Comilog) and the associated rail and processing infrastructure. French is the working language alongside local Bantu languages. The climate is equatorial with high year-round rainfall and stable warm temperatures. Franceville is connected to Libreville and Port-Gentil by the Trans-Gabon Railway and by domestic flights. The town has a small expat community tied to the mining sector and the international scientific research center CIRMF; relocation outside those institutions is uncommon.
