About San Miguel

San Miguel is the third-largest city in El Salvador and the principal urban center of the country's eastern region, set on the Pan-American Highway at the foot of the active San Miguel Volcano about 140 kilometers east of San Salvador. The city anchors a regional administrative, commercial, and agricultural economy serving the surrounding cotton, sugarcane, and coffee districts and the cattle-ranching country of the eastern departments, with substantial inflows from Salvadoran emigrant remittances that sustain consumer demand. The annual Carnaval de San Miguel in November is the country's largest. Climate is tropical savanna with a wet season from May through October and a hot, dry season otherwise. Spanish is the language and the US dollar the legal tender alongside the bitcoin official-currency framework. Relocation interest is largely domestic.
