About Kananga

Kananga is the capital of Kasai-Central province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with about 1.25 million residents on the savanna plateau of the country's south-central interior. It was historically the colonial-era center of Kasai diamond-mining administration and remains the regional commercial hub for an agricultural hinterland of cassava, maize, and palm oil. The climate is tropical wet-and-dry. Relocators should treat any DRC posting outside Kinshasa with full seriousness: road and rail connections to the rest of the country are degraded, healthcare is humanitarian-grade, French is the working language with Tshiluba dominating socially, and most foreign presence is mission, UN, or extractive-sector tied rather than lifestyle relocation.
