Why this quality rating
Sweden's public system is broadly strong, with reliable infrastructure and a credible local-school path for families staying long enough to integrate.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident families can generally enroll, and newcomer support exists in some areas, but the long-term public path still assumes Swedish integration.
⚠️ Homeschooling
Legally possible but very difficultSweden's 2010 Education Act made homeschooling very difficult. Approval is only granted in "extraordinary circumstances." Religious or philosophical reasons are not sufficient. Most applications are denied. Several families have left Sweden to homeschool elsewhere.

Healthcare
System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in Sweden.

About Södermalm
Södermalm is a central island district of Stockholm, Sweden, sitting directly south of Gamla Stan and connected to the rest of the city by tunnelbana, bus, and bridges over Slussen and Skanstull. It is one of the city's densest residential areas and has functioned for decades as a creative and design hub, with strong concentrations of media, tech, and small studios. Swedish is the official language but English fluency in central Stockholm is extremely high, making it functionally accessible to international arrivals. For relocators, this is squarely central-Stockholm living: high housing costs, an exceptionally tight rental market with long queues for first-hand contracts, and direct access via the Pendeltåg and Arlanda Express to Sweden's main international airport. The climate is humid continental, with cold, dark winters and mild summers.
