About Marigot

Marigot is the capital of the French overseas collectivity of Saint Martin in the northeastern Caribbean, with about 6,000 residents on the western coast of the island and sitting just north of the border with Dutch Sint Maarten on the same island. The local economy combines tourism, the marina and yacht charter sector, services, and cross-border activity with the Dutch side. French is the sole official language, with English widely used given the divided-island context and Haitian Creole and Spanish among migrant workforces. The climate is tropical with consistent warm temperatures and a hurricane-influenced wet season; Hurricane Irma in 2017 caused catastrophic damage to the island and a long recovery. Marigot operates under French law and the euro. The city suits EU citizens with tourism or marine sector employment.
