Why this quality rating
Russia's public schools can be academically strong, but the system is designed around local integration rather than short-horizon expat mobility.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident families may be able to enroll, but Russian-medium instruction makes the public route difficult for most expat families.
📋 Homeschooling
Legal with school enrollmentRussia legally allows "family education" (semeinoe obrazovanie). Students must be registered with a school for assessment. Exams follow the federal curriculum. Growing community, particularly in Moscow.

About Saratov
Saratov is a regional administrative center in southwestern Russia, a city of about 845,000 sitting on the right bank of the Volga River about 850 kilometers southeast of Moscow. The economy combines engineering, historically including the Saratov Aviation Plant that built Yak aircraft, alongside petroleum refining, and grain trade from the surrounding black-earth belt. The Saratov State University is one of Russia's oldest. Climate is continental with cold snowy winters and hot dry summers. Relocators should weigh the post-2022 sanctions environment that has severed most Western financial and visa channels into Russia, ongoing wartime restrictions on civilian movement and banking, and a city well off any current foreign relocator circuit. The page exists primarily for cost-of-living reference and diaspora context.
