About Yaren
Yaren is the administrative district that functions as the capital of Nauru, a small island country in the central Pacific, with about 1,100 residents and government buildings concentrated in the district despite no formal constitutional designation as capital. The country's economy has been shaped by decades of phosphate mining that left much of the interior unusable, followed by financial difficulty and a current mix of remaining phosphate work, fisheries revenue, Australian-funded regional processing arrangements for asylum seekers, and government. Nauruan and English are both official languages, with English used in administration. The climate is tropical with consistent warmth and a wetter monsoon season. Nauru is among the most isolated countries in the world by air access. Yaren is not a practical relocation target outside specific contracted government or aid roles.
