About Klaipėda
Klaipėda is Lithuania's main seaport and third-largest city, located on the Baltic coast at the mouth of the Curonian Lagoon where the Nemunas River system meets the sea. The city has German historical roots as the former Memel and retains some Hanseatic-era architecture, alongside extensive postwar Soviet-era development. The economy is heavily port-dependent, with the ice-free Port of Klaipėda handling the largest share of Lithuania's seaborne cargo, alongside fish processing, shipbuilding, and a developing tech sector. Ferry services connect to Kiel and Karlshamn. The climate is cool temperate maritime, milder than inland Lithuania. Lithuanian is the working language with substantial Russian and growing English use, and EU citizens can settle freely.
