Why this quality rating

Lebanon has a long-established education culture, but the public system has been under pressure from economic crisis and uneven funding. Many families who can afford it prefer private schools, especially in Beirut.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident families can sometimes access public schools, but Arabic/French classroom expectations and current system strain make the public route a difficult fit for many expat households.

📋 Homeschooling

Legal with official exams

Lebanon allows homeschooling under its education law. Students must take official government exams (Brevet and Baccalaureate) to receive recognized qualifications. No mandatory registration for home study, but exam enrollment is required for certification.

Healthcare

System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in Lebanon.

Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Sidon

Sidon is the third-largest city of Lebanon, on the Mediterranean coast about 40 kilometers south of Beirut, with roughly 165,000 residents. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with a Phoenician sea-castle and crusader-era citadel still defining its waterfront, and it remains the principal port and commercial center of southern Lebanon. The economy combines fishing, agriculture (notably citrus from the surrounding coastal plain), small commerce, and historically refining at the Zahrani terminal. Arabic is the working language with French and English common in professional and educational contexts. For relocation, the practical realities are dominated by Lebanon's ongoing economic and currency crisis since 2019, severe electricity rationing, and limited functioning banking, which together make conventional foreign residency impractical for most outside specific NGO or diplomatic roles.
