About Bata

Bata is the largest city in Equatorial Guinea, located on the Atlantic coast of Río Muni, the country's mainland province. While Malabo on Bioko Island remains the constitutional capital, Bata serves as the de facto economic and population center and the headquarters for much commercial activity, including the Port of Bata and the recently developed deep-water terminal. The economy is heavily tied to offshore oil and gas operations elsewhere in the country, alongside fishing and timber from the mainland. Spanish and French are official languages, with Portuguese also recognized. The climate is tropical with high humidity year-round and a long rainy season, and any international relocation faces significant visa and political constraints.
