Why this quality rating

Cote d'Ivoire has a functioning public system, but it is not usually the default schooling path for expat families seeking predictable quality and support.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment may be possible, but French-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route a difficult expat option.

Homeschooling

Not specifically addressed

Côte d'Ivoire has compulsory education but no specific homeschooling legislation. Expat families in Abidjan typically use international French-system schools. No formal framework for homeschooling exists.

About Abobo

Abobo is a 1.34-million-resident commune of Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire, a densely populated northern district of the country's economic capital that historically grew as a working-class settlement absorbing migrants from the rural north and neighboring Sahel countries. The local economy is largely informal, anchored by markets, transport, and small-scale services serving residents who commute into Abidjan's central business districts for formal-sector jobs. Relocators considering it would in practice be relocating to greater Abidjan; Abobo itself has limited infrastructure aimed at foreign residents, and expats typically settle in Cocody or Plateau instead. The climate is tropical with a long rainy season, French dominates daily life alongside local languages, and Abidjan's broader metro has improving transit including a new urban rail.
