About Carnot
Carnot is a town in the Mambéré-Kadéï prefecture of the western Central African Republic, sitting in the dense forested southwestern region near the Cameroon border. Population is roughly 130,000, swelled meaningfully by years of conflict-related displacement from surrounding areas. The local economy historically depended on diamond mining and the export of timber from the surrounding rainforest, both heavily affected by the country's prolonged civil conflict since the 2013 Séléka coup and the subsequent Anti-Balaka and armed-group violence. French is the official language with Sango widely used. Climate is tropical with heavy rainfall and warm humid weather year-round. Carnot has been at the heart of clashes between government forces, MINUSCA peacekeepers, and various armed groups including Russian Wagner contractors deployed to the country. Foreign relocation is effectively impossible; Western governments advise against all travel to CAR.
