Why this quality rating

Belarus has a Soviet-legacy state school system with reasonable literacy outcomes but limited English instruction and significant political context challenges for expat families.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Technically accessible to resident families, but Belarusian/Russian instruction and the broader environment make it impractical for most international families.

πŸ“‹ Homeschooling

Legal with school enrollment

Belarus permits homeschooling through its "home education" provisions. Students must be enrolled in a school and take periodic exams. The school supervises the process. Approval is required from educational authorities.

About Bobruisk

Bobruisk is the alternative English transliteration of the same city in Mogilev Region in eastern Belarus, sitting on the Berezina River with about 207,000 residents. The local economy is built around the Belshina tire combine, one of the largest in the former Soviet Union, plus machinery, wood processing, and food production. The compact center preserves a grid of low-rise nineteenth-century streets around the surviving Tsarist-era fortress; the prewar Jewish community, once among the largest in Belarus, was destroyed under German occupation. Russian dominates everyday life alongside Belarusian, the co-official language. The continental climate brings cold, snowy winters and warm summers. The Minsk-Gomel railway runs through the city with frequent services that reach the capital in about two hours; long-haul flights go via Minsk National Airport.
