Serbia has roughly average PISA scores for the region but outcomes vary significantly between urban and rural areas. The system is Serbian-medium.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident expat children can enroll in public schools. Most expat families in Belgrade tend toward private or international schools. Language and quality variation are the main push factors.

Homeschooling

Not specifically regulated

Serbia does not have clear homeschooling legislation. School attendance is required but enforcement for foreign families is limited. Belgrade has a small expat community.

About Kragujevac

Kragujevac sits in the Sumadija region of central Serbia, roughly 140 kilometers south of Belgrade. It was briefly the capital of the principality of Serbia in the 19th century and remains the country's fourth-largest city. The economy is dominated by the Stellantis automobile plant, which produces vehicles primarily for export to the EU, alongside a major regional university and a teaching hospital. The climate is humid continental with cold winters and warm summers. Serbian, written in both Cyrillic and Latin scripts, is essential for daily life, and English is reasonably common among younger residents. Cost of living sits well below Belgrade, and the city has become one of the more practical Serbian relocation options for remote workers seeking the Balkan price level outside the capital.
