Why this quality rating
Myanmar's public-school system is not a realistic default path for most expat families, especially given current instability.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Even where resident enrollment is possible, Burmese-medium instruction and current system disruption make the public route usually unattractive for expat households.
β Homeschooling
Not specifically regulatedMyanmar requires compulsory primary education but does not have a clear homeschooling framework. Enforcement varies significantly. Many expat families in Yangon (prior to instability) homeschooled without formal approval. The current political situation makes this largely academic.

About Ann
Ann is a small town in Rakhine State, Myanmar, with a registered population near 120,000, located on the Yangon-Sittwe road where it crosses the Arakan Mountains. The town historically served as a regional military command center and a transit point between coastal Rakhine and the Ayeyarwady delta. Since the 2021 military coup and the subsequent escalation of fighting between the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army, the area has seen significant displacement and infrastructure damage, with much of Rakhine State now under contested control. Climate is tropical monsoon with extremely heavy rainfall from May through October. Relocation by foreigners is effectively impossible under current travel restrictions, ongoing armed conflict, and active humanitarian access constraints across the state.
